The Louisiana Department of Health reported an additional 2,542 cases to the state's ongoing COVID-19 tally Thursday. State health officials said 2,139 cases are confirmed coronavirus cases while 403 are probable.
The total number of reported cases since the pandemic began stood at 261,329.
The death toll increased by 40 to 6,724. Hospitalizations dipped slightly by eight to 1,529 with 180 patients on ventilators, up three from Wednesday's update.
