U.S. Supreme Court Tosses Out Conviction Of Will Smith's Killer

The U.S. Supreme Court vacated the conviction yesterday of the man who shot and killed former Saints star Will Smith.

Cardell Hayes was found guilty of manslaughter on a 10-2 jury vote after claiming self defense for fatally shooting Smith after a car crash in 2016. The Supreme Court threw out the conviction in accordance with a 2019 ruling that non-unanimous jury verdicts are unconstitutional.

The case will now return to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.
