NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says his department continues to arrest repeat offenders for breaking into cars.
Ferguson spoke to the City Council's Crime Commission on Monday, saying they arrested a 13-year-old and 14-year-old over the weekend for breaking into cars, but the teens got out of custody quickly.
Ferguson said in some cases, a teen arrested for breaking into a car in the morning can be back on the streets by that evening.
New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams recently moved all major non-violent crimes by 15, 16, and 17-year-olds to juvenile court.
