New Orleans officials say the city is already on pace this year to pass the number of carjacking reported in 2020.
Data released over the weekend shows 72 carjackings in New Orleans over the first three months of the year compared to 43 over the same period in 2020.
Authorities say just over half of the carjacking victims are women, and the criminals almost always target drivers traveling alone.
Security experts say to protect yourself, be aware of your surroundings, lock doors, and use caution when people approach your car with flyers or asking for information.
