A bill that would decriminalize and regulate marijuana for recreational use is advancing in the Louisiana legislature.
On Tuesday, the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice voted 7-5 to advance the bill.
State Rep. Richard Nelson of Mandeville is sponsor of the bill and said studies show almost two-thirds of Louisianans support legalizing marijuana.
Law enforcement groups have opposed the bill, and Governor Edwards has also come out against legalizing recreational marijuana.
