NWS: EF-0 Tornado Tore Though New Orleans, Crossed River Into Algiers

The National Weather Service has confirmed that severe storms that passed through the New Orleans area overnight spawned a EF-0 tornado with estimated maximum winds of 85 miles per hour.

"This tornado touched down around 2:05 a.m.," said Laura Nash with the NWS. "It'll have about a five-mile long track length."

The EF-0 tornado touched down in the Uptown area before crossing the Mississippi River into Algiers, knocking down trees and power lines and leaving thousands without electricity. No injuries were reported.
