The Louisiana-based order of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady says their convent in Haiti was damaged in the recent earthquake.

Sister Martha Abshire said the damage was so severe that some sisters are sleeping in their car because the building could collapse.

Sister Abshire also said that a small hospital run by the order was destroyed, and the road to the facility is blocked.

Officials say an estimated 1,300 people have died in the earthquake, which measured seven-point-two on the moment magnitude scale.
