The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education ended early a meeting Wednesday due to protests about masks.

Demonstrators started chanting and refused to wear face coverings during the meeting despite an order from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.

BESE was supposed to vote on whether they had the power to require masks in schools or let the governor's order stand.

Edwards issued the mask mandate earlier this month as a fourth wave of COVID-19 spreads across the state, pushing hospitalizations to record highs.
