LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center is conducting a trial to determine whether the Moderna vaccine is safe and effective for children.

The vaccine trial includes 4,000 kids from across the country, including 35 from the Baton Rouge area.

Dr. Daniel Hsia says most of the young test subjects received their first dose in August and their second dose this month.

He says three-fourths of the kids will receive the vaccine, and the rest will get a placebo.

Dr. Hsia says an approved vaccine for kids is an important step toward ending the pandemic.
