Louisiana State Police Supt. Lamar Davis says a radio silence order is why Master Trooper Adam Gaubert didn't check in with dispatchers before he was shot to death early Saturday near Prairieville.
David says Gaubert stayed off the radio early Saturday because he was not involved in the manhunt for Matthew Mire, who was being sought for an earlier shooting spree.
Gaubert was filing a traffic crash report when the ambush happened. His body was found 15 hours later inside his marked unit in Prairieville.
Investigators believe Mire also shot Gaubert.
Davis says there will soon be technology allowing troopers to check in with dispatchers via their car computers during radio silence operations.
Mire was transported from an area hospital to the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail Monday.
