Industry analysts say OPEC's recent decision not to increase oil production is to blame for driving up gasoline prices by more than a dime a gallon and six cents a gallon in Baton Rouge and New Orleans respectively, in the past week.
The analyst website GasBuddy says the average price of a gallon of regular was $2.97 in New Orleans and $2.95 in Baton Rouge, as of Monday.
The statewide average price of gas rose eight cents a gallon from last week to $2.98.
Oil prices rose to their highest in seven years, to more than $80 per barrel.
