Louisiana State Sen. Rick Ward says Hurricane Ida was a stark reminder that there is a lot of work that needs to be done to shore up AT&T's telecommunications system.
The massive storm left residents of at least four parishes in the dark and unable to reach anyone for help.
Now, the Republican Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee says this needs to be addressed in the next legislative session before the state is hit by another natural disaster.
Ward says the state's power grid also needs to be discussed, as residents should not see increases in their power bills to cover the cost of repairs after storms.
