A city spokesman says a shortage of manpower on the New Orleans police force was not the reason the Krewe of Boo parade was cut short on Saturday.
Beau Tidwell says the Krewe of Boo hired officers to provide security for the private event.
Event organizers select the rate of pay for officers from a four-tier structure, and then put out a call for volunteers to work at that rate.
Tidwell says not enough officers signed up to work at the rate that was offered, so the parade route had to be shortened.
