A new study from the University of Texas at Austin says number of abortions performed in Texas fell by half in September.

The state's new abortion law severely restricting the procedure took effect last month.

The study says the number of abortions performed in recent months, compared to the same months in 2020, show the largest drop in the number of abortions in decades.

Texas women are getting abortions in neighboring states instead, including Louisiana.

The study found appointment wait times at out-of-state clinics grew longer after the law took effect.
