Louisiana congressmen want to reauthorize and improve the National Flood Insurance Program.
It's a bipartisan effort supported by both GOP Congressman Clay Higgins and Democratic Congressman Troy Carter.
Proposed changes include extending the program five years to September 2026, and cutting the amount paid for coverage from 25% to just 9%.
FEMA's new rating method, known as Risk Rating 2.0, would also be reined in to prevent any hikes in interest rates that could weaken the program.
The bill may come up for a vote sometime next year.
