Coronavirus hospitalizations are still sharply on the rise in Louisiana because of the highly contagious omicron variant.
The Louisiana Department of Health says there were 1,226 people hospitalized statewide with the virus as of Monday. Health officials say 77% of those patients were not fully vaccinated.
The health department reported nearly 9,300 new cases and 17 new deaths since Monday.
More than 15,000 people have died in Louisiana during the coronavirus pandemic.
