Lawmakers on a committee looking into Ronald Greene's death in police custody in 2019 will meet for the first time next Tuesday.

Speaker of the House Clay Schexnayder says the bipartisan group will review how the state police handled Greene's arrest, and what Gov. John Bel Edwards knew about it.

Officers originally said Greene died in a car crash at the end of a chase.

Edwards reportedly learned about Greene's violent arrest a few hours after it happened. The governor is now distancing himself from the investigation.
