Special Session Starts On Louisiana Congressional Maps

A Special Session on redistricting is starting in the Louisiana legislature.

The House and Senate gaveled in Wednesday afternoon.

Gov. John Bel Edwards called the special session last week shortly after a federal judge said maps passed during the regular session were unconstitutional.

Both Edwards and the judge want the maps to have two African-American majority districts.

Louisiana Congressman Troy Carter agreed. The New Orleans Democrat said the state legislature needs to draw fair maps and follow the Voting Rights Act.
