Latest On Tropics: PTC Two Brings Heavy Rain Threat

The National Hurricane Center said Tuesday a system approaching the southern Windward Islands and Venezuela was not quite a named storm.

While the potential tropical cyclone's winds were just above tropical storm strength at 40 miles per hour, hurricane hunters did not find a well-defined center of circulation. Another flight was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

"The system is expected to remain in a low-shear and moderately moist atmospheric environment for the next couple of days. However, interaction with land and fast forward motion will likely limit intensification until the system reaches the southwestern Caribbean Sea later this week. More significant strengthening, possibly into a hurricane, could occur over the latter area," said forecasters.

The next name on the list is Bonnie.

In the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, an area of low pressure continued to drift westward or west-southward towards the Texas coast, where heavy rain could fall later in the week.

In the central tropical Atlantic, the NHC says a tropical wave east of the Windward Islands could interact with another tropical wave. The overall system could see some gradual development later in the week as it moves west-northwestward.

The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30.
