Entergy New Orleans is implementing a temporary moratorium on electric service shutoffs for past due accounts.
The utility made that announcement Monday as a relief effort for struggling customers at a time when utility bills are through the roof.
Tje New Orleans City Council was set to discuss their proposal of a 90-day reprieve from service disconnection with Entergy New Orleans officials tonight, but the utility preempted that discussion with their own announcement yesterday.
Officials say part of the reason utility prices are on the rise is the shutdown of the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant, soaring natural gas prices, and record heat this past June.
