The first four-star black Marine Corps General is a Louisiana native.

The U.S. Senate approved Lieutenant General Michael Langley's promotion on Monday.

Gov. John Bel Edwards tweeted a congratulatory message afterward.

Langley was born in Shreveport, and he graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1985.

He's been in the Marines for 35 years.
