New Orleans now has the highest number of homicides in 26 years.
As 2022 draws to a close, the city is reporting at least 277 killings across New Orleans, the most since 1996.
Crowds of tourists are expected for the upcoming holiday weekend, so Interim NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork is increasing the numbers of officers on the street.
Woodfork has directed 250 NOPD officers to patrol the French Quarter and nearby areas, assisted by 25 Louisiana State Police.
