The New Orleans Police Department is reporting hundreds of stolen cars in the city in the first 16 days of 2023.

Officers have reportedly responded to 403 calls concerning car thefts.

The Metropolitan Crime Commission puts the number at more than 500. The commission's Rafael Goyeneche says that amounts to more than 20 stolen cars a day, or about one every hour.

At that rate, Goyeneche says four percent of the cars in New Orleans may be stolen sometime this year.
