Organizers of the unsuccessful recall effort against Mayor LaToya Cantrell are considering what to do next.

Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Sandra Wilson reported to Gov. John Bel Edwards on Tuesday that the recall petition had fallen more than 17,000 valid signatures short.

A legal analyst says the organizers could seek a Writ of Mandamus requiring Wilson to show why such a large number of signatures were rejected.

Cantrell's attorneys say they plan to proceed with her pending lawsuits against recall organizers and Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin.
