The Jefferson Parish Fire Department is announcing the death of its district chief.
Jimmy Schexnayder died in Houston at age 52 while being treated for lymphoma at MD Anderson.
On Monday afternoon, first responders held a procession as his body was brought home.
Schexnayder served as a firefighter for 33 years and was a founding member of the department's urban search and rescue team that was created after Hurricane Katrina.
