A Covington-based company is preparing to launch new life-saving communications technology into space aboard Elon Musk's SpaceX.
The flight next year is planned to carry technology developed by Globalstar as part of a partnership with Apple to improve emergency communications in rural areas.
The $64 million contract will allow iPhone 14 users to send emergency texts to first responders, even in areas with no cell service.
Globalstar employs about 200 people at its Covington headquarters.
