A choice has been made for New Orleans' next superintendent of police.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell has selected Anne Kirkpatrick, who has spent nearly four decades in law enforcement.
Kirkpatrick was the first female police chief in Oakland, California, but was fired after just three years on the job. There were accusations that she made false statements about a police raid.
The selection is a surprise to some, who predicted that Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork would get the job. She's been serving as the top cop since Chief Shawn Ferguson announced his retirement in December.
The New Orleans City Council will hold confirmation hearings for Kirkpatrick at a later date.
