Very few of the inmates on Louisiana's death row will be eligible for clemency hearings.
Because of his opposition to the death penalty, Gov. John Bel Edwards had urged the parole board to reduce 56 of the 57 death row inmates' sentences to life in prison.
East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore and other district attorneys filed injunctions to prevent the hearings.
The state parole board agreed on Tuesday to follow its own rules about eligibility, notice, and timeliness.
Only a handful of inmates will now be eligible.
