The federal Centers for Disease Control says Louisiana's flu activity is among the highest in the nation.
The Louisiana Department of Health keeps an eye on flu activity and severity statewide.
State Epidemiologist Theresa Sokol says about eight-percent of emergency room visits are for treatment of flu-like illnesses, more than twice the regional baseline.
She also says Louisiana's rate of positive flu tests is more than twice the national average.
The good news is this season's vaccine is effective against all the current strains.
