State officials are considering an operating permit for a chemical plant in Ascension Parish.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality held a public hearing on Thursday to hear public comment, both pro and con, about a permit for the facility Mitsubishi Chemical wants to build on Highway 30 in Geismar.
The $2 billion plant would make a liquid called MMA, which is used in a number of common products.
Construction would start this year, and the plant would go online in 2028.
Public comment is welcome until Monday.
