A bill calling for a constitutional convention in August now goes to the Senate following its approval by the Louisiana House on Tuesday.
State representatives overwhelmingly approved the measure by a 75-27 vote.
The bill calls for committees to meet in June or July, and for the constitutional convention to run from August 1-15.
Gov. Jeff Landry says the state's constitution, which has more than 200 amendments, is bloated, outdated, and much abused.
