Effort To Recall St. Tammany Parish Coroner Continues

The recall effort is proceeding against the St. Tammany Parish Coroner, along with a proposed bill to limit the power of his office.

The state Senate advanced a bill on Thursday requiring the coroner to be of good moral character and putting parish government in control of his office's finances.

Dr. Christopher Tape was accused of child sexual assault in New Mexico in 2001, but the charges were dropped.

Organizers of the recall effort say they've collected about 5,000 of the 35,000 signatures they'll need by October.
