LSU Health New Orleans is announcing the discovery of a non-addictive, non-toxic painkiller.

Dr. Nicolas Bazan's lab at the Neuroscience Center for Excellence says the newly discovered molecule can be used to treat migraines and neuropathic pain.

The lab has conducted clinical trials in which the painkiller relieved pain with no side effects, such as addiction, adverse effects on blood pressure, or toxic effects on the liver or kidneys.

After more clinical trials, the next step will be to apply for FDA approval.
