Cantrell Urges Hurricane Prep Now

The Atlantic Hurricane Season start June 1st and New Orleans city leaders are getting ready.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell urged residents to sign up for alerts on their phone.

Crews are opening a Unified Public Safety Warehouse, which is make it easier to get supplies to affected areas.

NOAA Latest To Call For Above-Normal Hurricane Season

The first outlook for the season, released Thursday, calls for 17-25 named storms, with eight to 13 becoming hurricanes, and four to seven reaching major hurricane strength of category 3 or higher.

The Sewerage and Water Board said that ten of their major drainage pumps are not available.

Two of the largest pumps that are out of service will stay that way until the end of June.
