A new state law will require accurate labeling for domestic and foreign seafood.
Senate Bill 166 will prohibit restaurants and seafood businesses from falsely claiming their seafood was caught in Louisiana.
State lawmakers passed the bill during this year's legislative session. It addresses importers that bring in foreign shrimp and market it as a Louisiana product at prices local shrimpers can't match.
The new law will take effect in January 2025, and will be enforced by the Louisiana Department of Health.
