A suspect is in custody after reportedly cutting off his 70-year-old mother's arm with a chainsaw on Monday.
New Orleans police say 34-year-old John Pittman attacked his mother with the saw at a home on Franklin Avenue.
The injured woman made it to a relative's home about three-miles away and called police.
Officers arrested Pittman on Franklin Avenue and were slightly injured during the encounter.
Pittman is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
His mother is hospitalized in critical condition.
