On Wednesday, Gov. Jeff Landry's attorney, Stephen Gelé, criticized the Louisiana Board of Ethics during a six-hour legislative hearing.
Gelé accused the board of conducting "abusive" investigations into elected officials, claiming their practices infringe on constitutional rights and are often excessive. He called for a re-evaluation of the board's mission, particularly regarding its interpretation of campaign finance rules.
The ethics board pushed back, with its top administrator, Kathleen Allen, insisting that their investigations are nonpartisan and that they don't track political affiliations.
