The United Cajun Navy has personnel in Florida to assist victims of Hurricane Milton.

The local nonprofit had volunteers staged north of Tampa last week, and they headed south on Thursday, the day after the storm made landfall.

A spokesman says the damage isn't as severe as they'd feared it would be, but people still need help and power outages are widespread.

United Cajun Navy volunteers made fewer high-water rescues than they expected, and are now focused on distributing supplies from several tractor-trailers.
