A lawsuit is attempting to stop Louisiana's largest coastal project on environmental grounds.
Opponents of the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion say it violates the Endangered Species Act.
The nearly $3 billion project would channel up to 75 thousand cubic feet of water every second into Barataria Bay on the Plaquemines Parish West Bank.
Plaintiffs want the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to shut down work on the project pending the results of further study.
