Officials are confirming the discovery of West Nile virus in mosquitoes in Orleans Parish.
The New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board says samples collected on the East Bank tested positive last week.
The agency has scheduled mosquito abatement efforts for Tuesday night from 6 to 10 p.m. in several adjacent neighborhoods, weather permitting.
Residents are urged to take precautions, such as getting rid of standing water near homes and using bug spray.
