The Slidell Fire Department is reporting the death of former fire chief Larry Hess Saturday at age 78 after a battle with cancer.
Hess worked in fire service on the North Shore for 48 years and was chief of St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 for ten years before he retired in 2013.
