Federal specialists and a security company are working on a plan to protect Jackson Square and Frenchmen Street from vehicular attacks.

New Orleans Homeland Security director Collin Arnold says he and the NOPD asked the specialists and Meridian Rapid Defense Group to come up with "vehicle mitigation safety" plans.

Arnold says he doesn't yet know when any hypothetical new barriers may be installed in the area.

The New Year's Day terror attack and the upcoming Super Bowl next month prompted the request for the plan.
