St. Tammany Parish Receives Federal OK For $6B Flood Mitigation Project

St. Tammany Parish now has federal authorization for a nearly $6 billion flood risk management project.

Parish President Mike Cooper announced the development on Wednesday at the St. Tammany Levee Drainage and Conservation meeting.

The authorization under the 2024 Water Resources Development Act allows the Army Corps of Engineers to do preliminary studies on the proposed projects, including 18 miles of levees, a 3-and-a-half-mile floodwall in Slidell, eight new pumping stations, and other facilities.
