The city of New Orleans has the go-ahead to demolish the Plaza Tower after years of legal tug of war with its owners.

After an Orleans Parish civil district judge ruled in favor of the city on Thursday, city officials can move ahead with plans to tear down the crumbling office building, which has been vacant for more than 20 years.

The office tower on Howard Avenue near Loyola Avenue has become a health and safety hazard because of falling debris and mold contamination.

No word yet on when the teardown will begin.
