State officials are confirming the death of a man whose execution would have been the first in Louisiana in 15 years.
Christopher Sepulvado died at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola on Saturday night after spending 30 years on death row.
The 81-year-old child-killer died of illness and natural causes less than a month before his scheduled execution on March 17.
He was given the death penalty for the 1992 murder of his six-year-old stepson.
Sepulvado would have been the first Louisiana inmate executed with nitrogen gas.
