Louisiana's top education official says he's not concerned about the layoffs of more than 1,300 Department of Education employees.

Dr. Cade Brumley says a reduction in bureaucracy doesn't necessarily mean a reduction in funding, which is something he hasn't heard discussed.

Brumley says state and local leaders, teachers, and parents can better decide what to do with the $900 million a year the Louisiana Department of Education receives from the federal agency.

The federal layoffs are tied to President Donald Trump's plan to reduce the size of the federal government.
