An insurance reform bill is on its way to the floor of the Louisiana House for a vote.
The House Insurance Committee advanced the bill on Wednesday after hearing from Governor Jeff Landry, who supports it.
Current state law authorizes the insurance commissioner to deem a rate excessive if rates are set in a noncompetitive market.
The new bill would empower Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple to deem a rate excessive even in a competitive market.
Temple says he already has this authority.
