The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission is reminding riders and drivers to be cautious during Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
The agency says the total number of traffic-related deaths in Louisiana went down from 2021 to 2023, but motorcyclist deaths have increased by 13 percent.
Riders are legally required to have an endorsement in order to operate a motorcycle. That involves completing safety courses with an instructor.
The state agency says riders and drivers should stay sober, put the phone down, and watch their speed.
