A historic plantation home and museum in Louisiana is heavily damaged after a fire Thursday afternoon.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause the blaze that tore through the Nottoway Plantation in White Castle.

The fire reportedly started in a second-floor bedroom. Firefighters soon had it tapped out, but the fire reignited in the evening, and the roof of the building collapsed.

The 1859 plantation house is one of the largest antebellum homes in the South.
