Offline Nuke Plant Near St. Francisville Caused Sunday's Power Outage

Officials say Sunday's widespread power outage is the result of a nuclear power plant near St. Francisville unexpectedly going offline.

More than 100,000 Entergy and Cleco customers across the New Orleans area had their lights go out.

Another power station was already offline for routine work, so when the Riverbend Nuclear Generating Station switched off, there wasn't enough capacity to meet demand.

MISO, the grid operator for a multi-state region, then ordered the outage.
